Lighten Up Your Resolutions
New Year’s resolutions. Yuck! They can feel so heavy, like the most important to-do list sprinkled with extra guilt-confetti. I'm tired of shouldering the weight of shoulds, so I want to try something different this year.
Instead of resolutions, what if we made wishes?
Hear me out. Wishes are friendlier, they're gentler, kinder. They’re about wants and needs, not obligations. And they're magical: when you let yourself dream without pressure, you often uncover what really matters to you.
The Power of Asking ‘Why?’
When I work with clients, I try to encourage them to look deeper into their desires—in this case, wishes. Why do you want what you want? What feeling are you chasing?
I recently worked with a client who wished to read four books before her next birthday. Pretty straightforward. So I asked her "why?" When we explored it together, she realized it wasn’t about the books. It was about giving herself permission to slow down, get cozy, and feel immersed in something just for her.
The deeper wish was to feel connected, calm, and present. And you know what? She's found that same fulfillment in unexpected places, by chatting with her daughter, laughing on the phone with an old friend, or finally watching that Netflix documentary she’d been meaning to get to.
So, What Are YOUR 25 Wishes for 2025?
Ready to dream a little? Grab a notebook or the Notes app on your phone, and start jotting down your wishes for the year ahead. Think of them as a mix of big dreams and small delights—no rules, no pressure.
Here’s some personal inspo to get you started:
Wake up to watch the sunrise (just once).
Try that recipe you keep saving on Instagram.
Spend a full day phone-free.
Get back on the mat, start small and slow (I miss Yoga).
Reach out to someone you miss.
Invest in a new hobby, or revisit an old one.
Say “no” without guilt at least once.
Say “yes!” to something scary but exciting (bring back a version of Sunday Fear Sesh, thanks Ci).
Start doing more personalized content on social media.
Go star-gazing. Bonus points if there’s a blanket and snacks involved.
Take a solo walk outside and notice three things that make you smile.
Organize that one drawer/cupboard you’ve been avoiding.
Laugh until your cheeks hurt.
Donate time, money, or kindness to someone who needs it.
Learn a new skill.
Finally binge that series everyone’s talking about.
Spend an entire day in pajamas without feeling bad about it.
Go to bed earlier (at least once!).
Buy yourself flowers, just because.
Journal about what makes you happy.
Dance! Even if it's in your living room. No audience required.
Book a trip. A daycation counts!.
Try something new at your favorite restaurant.
Read (or listen to) something that inspires you.
Celebrate yourself—your wins, your growth, your you-ness.
Drill Down on Your Wishes
Once you’ve got your list, spend a little time with each one. Ask yourself:
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think of this wish?
What feeling am I chasing?
Are there other ways to fulfill this?
This exercise isn’t about making things harder; it’s about uncovering what you really want and finding flexible, joyful ways to invite those feelings into your life.
Wishes aren’t about perfection
Wishes are about permission. This year I would love it if you could give yourself permission to dream, to explore, and to embrace the messy, wonderful process of being human.
So here’s to 2025: a year of cozy corners, belly laughs, deep connections, and moments that remind you why you’re here.
What are your top three wishes for 2025? 💛
